Chapter 2: Dividing the money

Gu Fei’s heart trembled, the officials and soldiers were synonymous with horror in her memory. When they entered the door, one could imagine what would happen.

Words such as ransacking the house and beheading, going to prison, etc. flashed through her mind for a moment, these were the officials and soldiers’s usual operations.

“Hurry up and help me to the second young lady’s room.” Gu Fei struggled to get up and said to the little maidservant in a low voice. She just wanted to lie down and recuperate, but she might never have a chance.

The little maidservant helped Gu Fei to the side door and walked into the second young lady’s room. The second young lady was still sitting in front of the dressing table, looking at the door in a daze.

“Close the door!” Gu Fei shouted.

The little maidservant quickly closed the door.

The second young lady came back to her senses when she saw Gu Fei and hurried over to grab Gu Fei’s hand: “Feicui, why did you get up before your injury healed? What’s going on outside?

Just as Gu Fei was about to say something, she glanced at the maidservants in the room, Zhenzhu was also among the crowd of maidservants. Her eyes were red with panic.

The Second Young Lady immediately understood what Gu Fei meant, and softly said to the girls: “You all go to the ear room, I have something to say to Feicui.”

The maidservants lowered their heads and quickly entered the side room one by one. Zhenzhu gave Gu Fei a hard look, and then they walked in reluctantly.

Gu Fei then lowered her voice: “Second Miss, the officials, and soldiers are here, I’m afraid it’s not a good thing, you have to plan early.”

The Second Young Lady knew why the officials and soldiers would go to someone else house. She became nervous: “What plans? You mean—”

Gu Fei said in a low voice: “It is estimated that Master has committed a crime. The next step is probably to ransack the house and go into exile.”

The Second Young Lady began to tremble slightly, “No way, then, what should I do?”

Gu Fei sighed, she didn’t know what to do. If she hadn’t been injured and had some strength, she might be able to find a way to escape, but now she couldn’t protect herself.

Forget it, just try your best.

Gu Fei thought for a while: “No matter what situation a person is in, they have to eat and drink, and this requires money!”

The Second Young Lady’s eyes lit up, and she nodded vigorously, “You’re right, I’ve saved a lot of money over the years, let’s hide it quickly, where should I hide it?” She said and looked around.

Gu Fei sighed, “Don’t look around. If they want to ransack the house, you won’t be able to keep this house, just hide as many as you can hide.”

She walked to the cabinet with difficulty, took out a small box, took out a bunch of keys tied to her side, opened the small box, and took out a few banknotes inside.

There were four banknotes, two for five hundred taels, and two for two hundred taels.

This was what the Second Young Lady had accumulated over the years.

Gu Fei signaled the second lady to hide the banknote by herself. The second lady took off one embroidered shoe and stuffed the two banknotes into the sole of the shoe. She was about to put the remaining banknote into the other shoe when she suddenly stopped. Then she handed the remaining silver bill to Gu Fei: “Feicui, you hide the rest yourself.”

Gu Fei was startled. The Second Young Lady looked at her with tears in her eyes: “You know, I have always treated you like my own sister, and I don’t know what will happen to the family in the future, you can live a better life with this money.”

Just as Gu Fei was about to evade, the second young lady said earnestly: “I’m afraid it will be difficult to keep the banknotes with me. We are half of each other, so the risk is less.”

Gu Fei was silent for a few seconds, nodded, and hid the rest of the banknotes close to her body.

Next, the second young lady gave her the pearl flower hairpin on the dressing table. She was originally a miser, but now that she heard that the house was going to be ransacked, she naturally didn’t want to let go of anything.

The Second Young Lady tried her best to stuff Gu Fei with jewelry while hiding some for herself.

At this time, in the next side room, several maidservants were crowded on the Kang, and only Zhenzhu was standing in front of the door with her waist bowed. She was leaning against the crack of the door and looked at the main room with a vicious expression.
